Appearance: The gnomes are a short, thin, humanoid race that, on average, stands about three feet tall. Their skin tones ranges from pale to tan and they are known world-wide for their pointed features and unsettling grins. They tend to favor sturdy cloth and leather clothing. Gnomes can live to age 80. The average life span is 35 years. This has nothing to do with their biology, so much as their culture. Most have no desire to live to an old age.
The gnomes were once slaves to the high elves but were rescued by the dark elves when they escaped their old world. At first they lived among the dark elves and dwarves, but their unsettling tendency to inflict pain for fun made them less than welcome. At some point they rebelled and were forced out of the dwarven cities. Now they live in small, secluded villages scattered across the surface of the Western Continent. Their social hierarchy is nonexistent, which doesn’t make much of a difference since gnomes have very little to no grasp of social boundaries. If they do happen across something their neighbor does that bothers them they either avenge themselves by repeating the affronting action on their neighbor or they pick up their bags and leave for a different village. While this setup works fine for the unorganized gnomish societies, it doesn’t transfer so well to the civilized nations on the Eastern Continent. Gnomes have earned themselves the reputation of being annoying, lawless, and somewhat violent little creatures. Many towns will turn them away at the gates if they attempt to pass through and everyone keeps a careful eye on their belongings and any sharp objects if they know there’s a gnome around.
Racial Bonuses: +2 Constitution, +2 Charisma, –2 Strength: Gnomes are physically weak but surpris-ingly hardy, and their attitude makes them naturally agreeable.
Small: Gnomes are Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their Combat Maneuver Bonus and Combat Maneuver Defense, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
Slow Speed: Gnomes have a base speed of 20 feet.
Low-Light Vision: Gnomes can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light. See Chapter 7 of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook. Defensive Training: Gnomes get a +4 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the giant type.
Illusion Resistance: Gnomes get a +2 racial saving throw bonus against illusion spells or effects.
Keen Senses: Gnomes receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception skill checks.
Obsessive: Gnomes receive a +2 racial bonus on a Craft or Profession skill of their choice.
Weapon Familiarity: Gnomes treat any weapon with the word “gnome” in its name as a martial weapon.
Languages: Gnomes begin play speaking Common and Gnome. Gnomes with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Draconic, Dwarven, and Rahahadam
Player Gnomes: When creating a gnome character choose one social boundary and delete it, so not only will the gnome readily break it around others, he will not mind if others break it around him.
